MICAS Training

MICAS Training

The safe transport of a critically ill patient requires a structured approach to: assessment, diagnosis, stabilisation and management of clinical conditions as well as knowledge of logistics and transport specific equipment in the ambulance environment.

The MICAS training course is run in collaboration with the participating MICAS hospitals in each hub. The course is run quarterly on a rotational basis between the participating hospitals in the eastern region and at least annually in the south (Cork) and west (Galway). These courses are run specifically for the MICAS teams involved in the retrieval of critically ill patients. In partnership with the host hospitals, this programme provides a structured approach to transporting critically ill patients, encompassing knowledge of processes; preparation; transport physiology; and specific equipment used in the MICAS service. It encompasses didactic, discussion, case studies, situational and simulation learning to allow the MICAS teams to develop knowledge and practice skills in a safe learning environment.   Sample programme
